Fourth of July activities planned in Harney County

Are you ready for some Fourth of July fun? All kinds of awesome activities are planned in Harney County to ensure that your Independence Day celebration is as lit as a firework!

The athletically inclined can rise and shine with the 2018 Firecracker 5K fun run and walk at the Hines Park Pavilion. Race-day registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the race gets under way at 9 a.m. The Burns High School (BHS) Cross Country teams are hosting the event, and all proceeds will benefit BHS athletes attending Steens Mountain High Altitude Running Camp.

Following the 5k, a patriotic parade will be held in downtown Burns, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on North Broadway Avenue.

If all that excitement has your tummy rumbling, you can head over to the Community Celebration at the Nazarene Church, 311 Roe Davis Ave. in Hines. Starting at noon with food, bouncy houses, and face painting, the celebration will offer fun for the whole family. Foodies can feast on a hot-dog-eating contest at 3 p.m., and there will be a tug-of-war competition for the bold and brawny at 4 p.m.

The day’s activities will end with a bang at dusk (about 9:45 p.m.) near the Harney County Fairgrounds, as the Kiwanis Club of Burns-Hines is hosting the annual Harney County Fireworks Fourth of July Display.
