Burns loses two in EOL play

 

The Hilander baseball team (2-8) opened up Eastern Oregon League play with a pair of losses to Stanfield/Echo (8-4) on Friday, April 6.

The Tigers won the opener 10-6, then finished off the doubleheader sweep with a 13-5 victory.

The Hilanders took a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning and one in the third, but Stanfield/Echo answered back with four runs in the bottom of the third. The Tigers then put together a five-run rally in the fifth and added a run in the sixth to break the game open.

The Hilanders scored three in the seventh to provide the final margin.

The Hilanders’ Emil Aamodt had two hits and a pair of RBIs, and Mick Winn added two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

Cade Tiller gave up nine runs on eight hits with two strike outs over four innings and took the loss.

Stanfield/Echo got the bats going early in the second game, scoring four runs in the first and three in the second for a 7-1 lead.

Burns added a pair of runs in the third, but that was as close as they would get as the Tigers tacked on five more runs in the next two innings.

Winn surrendered 10 runs on eight hits over three innings and was tagged with the loss. He struck out three and walked two.

Burns continues with league play on Friday, April 13, when they host Umatilla (4-3). The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m.

The Burns baseball team hosted Grant Union on Tuesday, April 3, and it was the Prospectors coming away with a 16-2 win.

After two scoreless innings, the Prospectors scored five runs in the third and another in the fourth to grab a 6-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Burns got RBI-singles from Zane Bailey and Taron Case to cut the lead to 6-2.

Grant Union then put the game away with four runs in the sixth, and another six in the seventh.

Winn took the loss, giving up three runs on one hit over two and a third innings, with four walks.

The Hilanders had five hits, led by Luke Bailey with two.

The Burns baseball team won one of their three games at the Grant Union Tournament held March 29-31 in John Day.

On Thursday, March 29, the Hilanders opened up their tournament play with an 11-6 loss to Monroe.

The following day, Phoenix defeated Burns 14-2.

In their third and final game, the Hilanders outslugged Lakeview 11-10.
