Clifford Carl Clinton Owen 1934-2017

Clifford Carl Clinton Owen passed away Aug. 27 at his favorite camping and fishing area at Odell Lake.

Cliff was a fourth-generation Oregonian, born Feb. 11, 1934, in Port Orford to Leslie Louis and Ruth Eva (Hollepeter) Owen. Cliff graduated from Burns High School in 1952; served in the U.S. Marines as a Korean War era veteran, attaining the rank of sergeant; and majored in accounting at Portland State University.

Cliff worked as an accountant for more than 50 years. His career included positions as division controller for Lucky Lager Beer at the Vancouver, Wash., and San Francisco, Calif., offices, as well as, controller and director of administration for Chef Francisco in Eugene. In later years, he established and operated a successful small business providing accounting services to other businesses and organizations.

Like his father, Cliff was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed exploring the backroads of Oregon.  His favorite hobby was fishing from his boat on the Oregon coast and the state’s lakes. Cliff also had a passion for long car drives. Cliff was blessed with maintaining his driving skills through his final years. In fact, he never lost the ability to drive his large motorhome with either a car or boat in tow.

Cliff is survived by his former wife, Barbara (Benson) Owen; four sons, Michael, Jeffrey, Steven, and Kent Owen; six grandchildren, Jason, Joshua, Jennifer, Logan, Brandon, and Bradley Owen; great-granddaughters, Havilah Owen and Lily Kilborn; and three nephews, Daniel, David, and Kenny Burns.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; older sister, Barbara (Owen) Burns; and daughter, Julie Owen.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association.
