(Photos by BRIAN GRAHAM and LINDY WILLIAMS) The Burns track teams not only hosted the Burns Lions/Arlie Oster Memorial Track Meet on Saturday, April 15, they also won both the girls and boys team titles. The Burns girls claimed the top spot with 177 points. Grant Union was second with 154 points, followed by Ontario with 88, Adrian 65, Modoc, Calif. 45, Vale 44, Harper 10, Powder Valley 7, Dayville 6, Crane 4, and McDermitt, Nev. 4. The Lady Hilanders swept the top four places in the 400 meters, led by Carli Feist with a time of 1:02.79. Also finishing first in their events were McKenzi Hoyt in the 800 and 1,500; Mary Letham in the 3,000; and Nicol Gahley in the pole vault. The Burns boys team compiled 182 points to easily out-distance Ontario with 146.5 for the top spot. Crane came in third with 83 points, followed by Adrian with 68, Vale 61.5, Powder Valley 51, Grant Union 40, Harper 15, Burnt River 5, Prairie City 4, and Dayville 4. The Hilanders’ Jake Blackburn took first in both the shot put and discus and placed second in the javelin to help lead the Hilanders to the win. Also finishing first for Burns were Scott Davies in the 800; Emmett Klus in the 1,500; Dallon Higgins in the pole vault, Hyrum Paramore in the triple jump; Calvin Bates in the 3,000; and the 4×400 relay team of Evan Gunderson, Brett Friedrichsen, Higgins and Davies. The Crane Mustangs were led by David Steeves with first place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles and the high jump, and Jay Jay Balowski, who won the long jump.
