Arthur Lee Raymond 1930-2016

obit-raymond-webArthur Lee Raymond, 86, of John Day, passed away Oct. 12 at Valley View Assisted Living Facility. No public services will be held at this time.

Arthur Lee “Art” Raymond was born June 22, 1930, in Delta, Colo. Art married Dolores Hughet in July 1951 just before leaving to serve in the Marines at Camp Pendleton in September 1951. He stayed stateside and trained troops on driving Ducks (amphibious vehicles) and was promoted to Lance Corporal. Their first son, Steve, was born in California while Art served in the Marines.

After the Marines, Art and Dolores made their home in Burns. They had three more children, Scott, Chris (Lynn), and Judy (Kevin). Art worked for Edward Hines Lumber Co. for 50 years as a millwright. He also worked part time for Nyleen’s Hardware.

Art loved the outdoors, hunting (his beard could get really long), fishing, and camping. Scott, being born in late October, made his dad miss out on elk hunting that year.

Art and Dolores divorced in 1982 after 31 years. They had six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Art was also a 60-year member of the Elks Lodge.

Art began his next chapter when he married Barb Davis in June 1987 and gained his second family; Tom (Susan), Laura (Bob), and Lynda (Terry). Art and Barb lived in Burns, Weiser, Meridian, and John Day. They had nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Art and Barb were married for 29 years before Barb passed away on May 21, 2016.

Our heartfelt thanks to Lynda and Laura for all the love and care provided to Art (Pops), especially over the last few years.

Arrangements are under the care of Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd. in John Day. To light a candle or leave a condolence for Art, please visit driskillmemorialchapel.com.
