Richard Louis Roy, 88, of Bend, passed away Sept. 19.

Richard was born Aug. 12, 1928, in Yakima, Wash., the eldest of four sons born to Albert and Annette Roy.

In 1948, he married Mary Lee and had seven children, making their homes in Yakima, Wash., Burns, and St. Maries, Idaho, before returning to Oregon and settling in Bend in 2006.

Richard worked extensively in the Short Line Railroad industry in Washington, Oregon, California, and Kansas. He also had a lifelong love of restoring vintage cars, attending various car shows showing off his classic corvairs.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Dorothy Roy of Bend, Ronald Roy of Bend, Raymond Roy of St. Maries, Robert and Debra Roy of Glenmora, La., Ryan and Trisha Roy of Sisters, and Reid Roy of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law, Rene and Mark Bennett of Hillsboro; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife in 2010; his parents; and two brothers.

The family gathered in Bend on Sept. 20 to celebrate his life.
