Marica Kim Hoodie 1961-2016 Obituary September 28, 2016September 29, 20160 Marica Kim Hoodie, 55, passed away Aug. 16 at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, surrounded by family members. Marica was born Aug. 3, 1961, in Burns to Belle (Capps-Teton) and Wallace Hoodie. She was raised in Burns and attended schools in the Burns-Hines community. She was a member of the Burns Paiute Indian Reservation and a member of the Nazarene Church. Marica attended Burns Union High School and Depot Bay Job Corps where she obtained her G.E.D. She later attended Treasure Valley Community College for a brief time. Marica was passionate about her daughter and grandson, traveling, playing softball, shooting billiards, music, beadwork, sewing baby moccasins, digging roots, camping, and teaching her grandson, Xavier, to speak Paiute. Marica was an avid sports fan. Her all-time favorite college team was the University of Oregon Ducks, and what made it even more special for her is that her nephew, Jon, plays in the U of O marching band. Marica also liked to volunteer and fundraise for others in need of her help. She loved to be part of something she believed in. She was employed at the Old Camp Casino and Yakima Legends Casino in Toppenish, Wash., where she was a slot floor tech. Her last place of employment was Dickenson’s Frozen Foods in Fruitland, Idaho, until her health began to fail. Reminiscing with her childhood friends and reconnecting with her family, relatives, and Paiute elders was precious to her. Marica finally accepted Jesus as her dear Lord and savior, and spent her last days surrounded by loved ones most dear to her. Marica is survived by her daughter, Lanada Teton (Fred); grandson, Xavier Banuelos; sisters, Sonya Dick (Kenton), Elisha Capenetto, Maureen Hoodie, and Maria Teton; brothers, Terry Hoodie, DeWayne Hoodie (LaVerne), Tyrone Hoodie (Stacey), and Lyle Hoodie; aunts, Ruth Lewis and Lorraine Bacon; uncle, Bobby Capps; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Belle and Wallace; sister, Eleanor Capps; brother, Robert Hoodie; niece, Jeanette Beth Hoodie; nephew, Levi Alexander; and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Pastor Bryon Bowman officiated the service, with Cecilia Hellbush-Morrow reading the eulogy. Marica was laid to rest in the New Camp Cemetery.
