Restoring unity in the community

Community Unity

The Harney County Chamber of Commerce and others have been placing orange ribbons around town in an effort to promote unity within the community. Unfortunately, however, many of the ribbons were torn down last weekend, and a number of the wagon wheels that adorned merchants’ businesses were broken. Undeterred, the chamber responded by resetting the display. A myriad of orange ribbons now grace light poles, fence posts, tree trunks, benches, and businesses throughout town.

  1. Samantha,
I have contacted StoryCorps about interviewing Harney Co residents to honor all viewpoints. I have also contacted Fishtrap writing workshop in the Wallowas about a Harney Co theme. I thought perhaps Harney Co high school students could do an interview project, perhaps to be entered in the county library. I would like to let Georgia Marshall know I am just one of western Oregonians really wanting to encourage Harney county people and give a shout out to sheriff Dave.
If you give me an email address I will forward the responses I received from StoryCorps and Fishtrap. Someone in Harney county may want to run with one of these projects or write a column or book or……..?

    1. Hi Camille,
I spoke with my editor, and a few names came to mind. We will pass your comment along and see if there is any interest.
      Thank you
