Leroy R. Wion 1940-2015 Obituary January 13, 2016January 13, 20160 Leroy R. Wion passed away Nov. 26, 2015. He was born to Roy and Shirley P. Wion of Pondosa, Calif., the third oldest of seven children. Leroy joined the military in 1959, after graduating from high school. He met and married Shirley M. Hartman-Hogue July 31, 1960. They welcomed a daughter, Paula Wion, Nov. 22, 1960. A second daughter, Vicki L. Wion, joined the family Jan. 18, 1962. The family moved to Vale in 1962 and John Day in 1964, which is where Leroy was discharged from the National Guard in 1966. The couple welcomed a son, Dennis D. Wion, March 11, 1966. They then moved to Burns, where Leroy worked for the mill. In the 1980s, Leroy worked for Burns One Stop, and he became a hauler for the Oregonian newspaper in the 1990s. In 1997, he became a taxi cab driver, retiring in 2014. His health worsened at that time. He is survived by his daughters, Paula and Vicki of Burns; grandchildren, Mark, Alicia, Brandon, Dylan and Ariana; great-grandchildren, Desirae, McKenzie, Tristan, Madeline, and Gavin; brothers, Gerald and wife, Roberta of Shasta City, Calif., Richard Poinler of Oregon, Warren and wife, Marilyn of Santa Cruz, Calif.; sisters, Myrtle Thomas of Janesville, Calif., and Charolette Bowan of Weed, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Betty Jones and husband, Tom of Oklahoma, Susan Kolling of Bend, Mae Sherman, Patty Gidley of Susanville, Calif., Mary Blodgett and husband, Ron of Arizona, and Bobby Hogue of Klamath Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Shirley P. Wion; wife, Shirley M. Wion; infant son, Dennis D. Wion; sister, Sharon Welch; brother-in-law, Norman Kolling; sisters-in-law, Connie Hartman; mother-in-law, Loretta Hogue; and father-in-law, Robert Hogue. The family plans to have a family get-together in California this summer.
