Crane girls open league play with two wins

Down by six at halftime, the Crane girls basketball team outscored Jordan Valley 31-16 in the second half for a 50-41 High Desert League win on Saturday, Jan. 9, at Crane Union High School.

Claire Hammond scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Crane in scoring, and Savannah Maupin added 10.

Jordan Valley used the fast break effectively in the early going to carve out a 10-point lead in the first quarter.

Crane battled back over the next eight minutes, and trailed 25-19 at the break.

Jordan scored a basket to open up the third quarter, but Crane answered with 3-pointers by Hammond and Hannah Maupin, and a bucket by Kayla Mims to even the score. Following a basket and free throw by Jordan Valley, Crane went on a 9-0 run to take the lead, and they were up by two heading into the final quarter.

Crane outscored Jordan Valley 14-7 over the final eight minutes to get the win.

H. Maupin scored 19 points and Bryana Dunn had 10 to lead Crane to a 43-38 victory over Adrian on Friday, Jan. 8.

The Mustangs were up 23-15 at halftime, but saw the Antelopes bounce back for a 29-28 advantage by the end of the third quarter.

Crane finished the game by outscoring Adrian 15-9 to get the win.

Crane is now 2-0 in league play, and 10-2 overall.
