06 Livestock takes first at 16th annual Ranch Rodeo

The 16th annual Harney County Ranch Rodeo was held Saturday, July 13, at the Harney County Fairgrounds with 22 four-person teams competing for cash and prizes.

The teams competed in six different events, and after the dust settled on a scorching hot day, the 06 Livestock team of Nathan Easterday, Duncan Mackenzie, Wyatt Stanford, and Kasen Skinner came away with first place. Each team member took home $652.50 plus a prize.

The top four teams had their pick of the prizes, which were 5-star saddle pads from Bella Star Boutique, rawhide reins by Dan Fowler, headstalls by Brad Mastre, and stirrups by Johnny Miller.

Second place went to the Baldwin Hats team of Matt Mori, Leah Mori, Hyland Wilkinson, and Frank Bengoa. They each pocketed $543.75 and a pick of the remaining prizes.

The Arock Ranch team, comprised of Katlen Schimmelpfennig, Brian Grenke, Shaun Lequerica, and Victor Ugalde finished in third place, winning $435 apiece and a choice of remaining prizes.

Fourth place went to the Adel Team, Hezzie McGarva, Patrick O’Keefe, Terry Cahill, and Ty Law. Each member received $326.25 and the remaining prizes.

Michael’s Gang, made up of Michael Casey, Barry O’Leary, JT Villigrana, and Cash Casey, took fifth, and each man received $217.50.

Easterday of the 06 Livestock team won the Top Hand award and received a custom hat from Baldwin Hats of Sisters.

The Top Horse award was presented to Jack Glascock of the Cow Creek Cowboys team, and he received a mecate rope made by Merlin Rupp.

Saddle Bronc Riding: Custom hat by Lisa Robinson (1); Maher Ranch —  Tim Maher. Score 76

Ranch Doctoring: Ropes from Anderson Valley Supply (4); Under The Table Gang — John Opie, Willy Stoddart, Tyler Opie, Todd Carson. Time 54.0

Big Horn Cow Roping: Vests (2-fast time); 06 Livestock — Easterday and Mackenzie. Time 19.79

Trailer Loading: Rein chains by Bill Grant (4); Baldwin Hats — M. Mori, L. Mori, Wilkinson, Bengoa. Time 43.0

Horse Roping: Breast collars by Tim Alden (2-fast time); Baldwin Hats — M. Mori and Wilkinson. Time 34.06
