Nola Jean Bamberry Smith 1958 – 2021

Nola Jean Bamberry Smith, 62, passed away Friday, June 4, at her home in Seattle, Wash., after a long illness. 

She was born August 27, 1958, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the daughter of James and Louise Bamberry. They moved to Lawen in Harney County when she was three years old.  

She attended Lawen Elementary School and graduated from Crane Union High School as valedictorian.

She graduated cum laude from Walla Walla University in College Place, Wash., and obtained her Ph.D. in medieval literature at the University of Washington. 

She taught teaching and research skills in a program for college teachers and doctoral students with a curriculum she designed for the School of Business Administration at the University of Washington.  

She married Keoni Smith in June 1984, in Seattle at the Green Lake Church in Seattle where they lived for the rest of her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Bamberry; and her grandparents, Margaret Bamberry and J.O. (Ormond) and Gladys Ausmus; and her aunt, Margaret Trainer, all long-time Harney County residents.

She is survived by her husband, Keoni Smith of Seattle, Wash.; her mother, Louise Bamberry Watts of Hines; her aunts, Donna Fincher of Summersville, Oregon, and Arlene Harris of Fairfield, Mont.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on June 17 for family and friends by Zoom internet technology.
