Marianne Harris 1942-2019

Marianne Harris, 77, passed away peacefully Sept. 18 at her home in Hines, with family by her side.

Marianne “Mary” was born March 27, 1942, in Elkhart, Ind., to Harold and Beatrice Nusbaum. When she was a young girl, the family moved to Oregon and settled in the small town of Silverton. Marianne and her family were involved in the First Baptist Church and enjoyed going on camping and road trips. Marianne graduated from Silverton Union High School in 1960. Soon after, she married her high school sweetheart, Gary Verbeck, and together they had two children. In 1974, Marianne married Clarence “Bob” Harris. Living in Salem, Mary worked and enjoyed her position at Mootry’s Pharmacy as an OTC manager for many years. In 1985, Marianne and Bob moved to Bend, relishing in all the camping and fishing opportunities in the area. She worked six years as a personal care manager at Bend Villa Court before her 13 years and retirement from Bend Memorial Clinic where she worked in the Central Receiving Department. Her favorite task in this position was preparing home-cooked food for the doctors in the clinic. Marianne’s greatest pleasure was making meals for her family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. She also loved flower gardening and floral arranging.

As a widow, Marianne moved to Hines in 2014 to be closer to her daughter. She made many new friends at the Harney County Senior Center and Faith Baptist Church.

Marianne is survived by her daughter, Kelly Jo Lovelady, and husband, Robert “Curly” of Burns; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Harris; father, Harold Nusbaum; mother, Beatrice Nusbaum; brother, Jack Nusbaum; and son, Greg Verbeck.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend.

Contributions in memory of Marianne Harris may be made to Faith Baptist Church of Hines, Harney County Senior and Community Services Center, or Harney County Home Health and Hospice.
