Groundwater study gathering to be held Oct. 25

The Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD) and the Harney County Court invite interested community members to attend a community gathering to discuss the Harney Basin Groundwater Study on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Central Hotel in Burns. The Central Hotel is located at 171 N. Broadway Ave. in Burns.

OWRD and U.S. Geological Survey will be sharing information on the Harney Basin Groundwater Study, including preliminary study findings. Interested community members are invited to attend this gathering to learn more about the effort, ask questions, and engage groundwater study scientists and local advisory committee members in discussion. Food and drinks will be provided.

The multi-year scientific study was initiated in late 2016 to better understand groundwater resources in the Harney Basin. The study team has been collecting data for nearly two years from across the basin. Over the next couple of years, they will be using this information to put together a more complete and detailed picture of the groundwater system and situation. This is a good opportunity to get up-to-speed on what is going on with the study and stay engaged as the Groundwater Study Team transitions from collecting data to analyzing that data.
