Hueckman, Klus, Maupin earn state titles at Hayward Field

With one throw left in the javelin competition at the OSAA 1A state track meet, Crane’s Miles Maupin sat in second place behind Jared Hunt of Camas Valley.

On the final throw of his high school career, Maupin hurled the javelin 169 feet, 10 inches, giving him the state title.

The Crane boys track team tied for 11th place with 11 points at the 1A state meet held May 17-18 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

The Mustangs’ Rhett Landon placed eighth in the 110m hurdles (18.12), Imani Schaefer finished ninth  in the pole vault (9-06.00), and Jay Jay Balowski placed 10th in the long jump (19-01.25).

Pacific won the 1A boys team title with 74.5 points.

The Crane girls team finished tied for 15th with 14 points.

Crane’s Riley Davis returned home with a silver medal for her second-place finish in the shot put (33-07.75). Shelie Doman came in fifth in the discus (96-05), and Elizabeth Jenkins placed eighth in the pole vault (7-4.25).
Cove won the 1A girls team title with 74 points.

As the 2018 track and field season drew to a close, the Burns Hilanders’ Allie Hueckman and Emmett Klus were both honored as state champions at the OSAA 3A Track & Field State Championships held May 17-18 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

Klus won both the 800m (1:58.87) and the 1500m (4:08.58) to lead the Burns boys team to a fifth-place finish with 34 points.

Hueckman won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, six inches, and the Burns girls team placed ninth with 31 points.

In addition to winning the 800 and 1500 races, Klus teamed up with Evan Gunderson, Kyran Simpson, and Klayton Nutter for a fifth-place finish in the 4×400 relay (3:34.24).

The Hilanders’ Bryce Goss placed third in the javelin (163-11) and seventh in the discus (127-01), and JP Friedrichsen finished seventh in the 3000m (9:38.21).

Nutter also competed in the 100m, Gunderson and Simpson in the 400m, and Tyler Singhose in the 110m hurdles.

Pleasant Hill won the boys title with 62 points.

Hueckman added to the Burns girls team points with a seventh-place finish in the javelin (111-09) and eighth-place in the long jump (15-09.50).

The Hilanders’ Alicyn Hoke raced to a fourth-place finish in the 3000m (11:20.81), McKenzi Hoyt placed fifth in the 800m (2:26.99) and sixth in the 1500m (4:56.06), Mary Letham was sixth in the 800m (2:32.56) and seventh in the 3000m (11:28.26), Parker Landon finished 12th in the triple jump (31-03.00) and competed in the 300m hurdles,  and the 4×400 relay team of Sayge Root, Lexi Hoyt, Annabelle Johnson, and M. Hoyt placed eighth (4:19.07).

Blanchet Catholic won the girls team championship with 67.5 points.
