Hilanders take tops spots at Walker Invite

 

The Burns boys and girls track teams continued their winning ways by taking first place at the Don Walker Invitational on Friday, April 27, at Nyssa.

The Burns girls placed first among the 16 teams participating with 154 points. Nyssa was second with 133 points, followed by Grant Union with 95, Emmett, Idaho 68, Adrian 67, Riverside 28, Vale 20, Huntington 17, Horseshoe Bend, Idaho 13.5, Imbler 13, North Star Charter (Eagle, Idaho), Pine Eagle 6.5, Jordan Valley 4, Powder Valley 4, Long Creek 3, and Wilder, Idaho 2.

The Burns boys team racked up 117 points to take the team title, beating second-place Nyssa by five points. Emmett came in third with 91 points, followed by Harper with 57, Adrian 48, Grant Union 39, Vale 37, Pine Eagle 21, North Star Charter 18, Riverside 17, Jordan Valley 16, Imbler 16, Horseshoe Bend 16, Huntington 7, Long Creek 5, Powder Valley 4, and Wilder 2.

The Burns boys and girls track teams both placed second in the Summit JV meet on Wednesday, April 25, in Bend.

Summit took the girls team title with 99.5 points, followed by Burns with 85, Gilchrist 32, Culver 24, and The Dalles 20.5.

Summit also won the boys meet, scoring 109 points. Burns amassed 91.5 points, Culver 27.5, The Dalles 26, and Gilchrist 8.

After a few years in college, he settled in Idaho for a decade, skiing, golfing, and working at Sun Valley Resort. He married in 1985, completed broadcast school, and moved to Harney County in 1989 to work for KZZR.
