Track teams open season

The Burns boys and girls track teams both finished in third place at the Crook County Icebreaker meet in Prineville on Thursday, March 15.

Crook County won the boys team title with 242 points. Ridgeview was a distant second with 108 points, followed by Burns with 104.5, Baker 88.5, Culver 43, North Lake 29, Grant Union 24, and Ione nine.

Crook County also placed first in the girls team standings, scoring 178 points. Ridgeview was second with 125, followed by Burns with 101, Grant Union 80.5, Culver 58.5, Baker 49, Ione 36, and North Lake 22.

Individual results for the Hilanders who placed in the top eight of their event are as follows:

The Crane track teams traveled to Harper on Friday, March 16, to compete in their first meet of the season, the Diana Thurmond Invitational.

Editor Randy was born in Iowa, and spent most of his life growing up in the Hawkeye State. After a few years in college, he settled in Idaho for a decade, skiing, golfing, and working at Sun Valley Resort. He married in 1985, completed broadcast school, and moved to Harney County in 1989 to work for KZZR. After 16 years of on-air work, he left the radio station and went to work for the Burns Times-Herald.
