Mustang boys and girls teams compete in Alycia Jenkins Memorial Tournament

On Friday, Dec. 15, the Crane Mustangs boys basketball team won 60-26 over the Spray/Mitchell Loggers in the first round of the Alycia Jenkins Memorial Tournament, and advanced to the championship round. Saturday, Dec. 16, the Mustangs took on the Adrian Antelopes, and after a back-and-forth battle, Crane took the tournament championship with a 51-44 win.

Crane’s Jacob Dunn was named MVP of the tournament.

Crane will compete in the Union Holiday Tournament Dec. 21-23. The Mustangs will take on the Elgin Huskies at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21.

On Friday, Dec. 15, the Crane Mustangs girls  basketball team took on Spray/Mitchell in the first round of the Alycia Jenkins Memorial Tournament, winning 68-14. The Mustangs then faced the McDermitt Bulldogs on Saturday, Dec. 16, and lost 36-24.

Friday, the Mustangs quickly jumped to the lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Loggers, 29-5.

Crane continued to rack up the points during the second quarter, and by halftime, the Loggers were behind 41-10.

Spray/Mitchell only scored four more points in the game, while the Mustangs increased their lead, ending the game with a 68-14 win.

scored 11, Laurel Witzel had 10 points, Shelie Doman scored six, and Kaylee Carson made five.

Davis and Witzel led the team in steals with eight apiece, followed by Maupin with six, and Jenkins who had five.

In rebounds, Davis led the pack with nine, followed by Doman and Jessica Zander with two apiece.

Maupin and Witzel both racked up four assists, followed by Davis and Jenkins with three each.

The next day, Crane took on McDermitt in the championship game. The Bulldogs stifled the Mustangs’ offense and held a 14-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Bulldogs further increased their lead in the second quarter, and at halftime, McDermitt led 20-9.

The third quarter was slow offensively for both teams, and ended with a 26-14 lead for the Bulldogs.

Both teams added 10 points to their scores in the fourth quarter, ending the game with a 36-26 McDermitt win.

The Bulldogs’ Precious Masters was named the tournament MVP.

Maupin led the Mustangs’ offense with 16 points, followed by Davis with eight.

Davis led the team in steals with three, followed by Carson and Doman with one apiece.

Davis was also the Mustangs’ lead rebounder with 12, followed by Doman with four, Maupin with two, and Jenkins, Carson, and Witzel with one each.

Jenkins had four assists, Davis had two, and Maupin, Carson, and Witzel each had one.

The Mustangs will take on the Elgin Huskies on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Union Holiday Classic, held Dec. 21-23, in Union.
