Darrell Moffet 1937-2017

Darrell Moffet passed away Aug. 31 in Little Rock, Ark., with his wife, Lucinda, and his oldest daughter, Sharlene, at his side. He had been ill for several months.

Darrell was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Portland. He was raised in Drewsey and attended Kimball Flats School and Crane High School where he was active in track, baseball, and football, and was class president and valedictorian. He graduated in 1956.

Darrell attended College of Idaho for two years where he was active in track and field events. During summer break, he worked for the Forest Service. He served in the Air Force from 1958-1962 where he learned electronics. It was a career he pursued for more than 50 years.

He traveled extensively with his work, maintaining computers in their infancy and eventually worked on mainframes for Control Data in Minneapolis, which was taken over by Bell Atlantic and then by Decision One near the time of his retirement. Some of his interesting work sites included NORAD in Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs, Fort Huachuca military base in Arizona, Oregon State University, Washington State University, various government and law enforcement agencies, hospitals, and airlines.

Even though he had these accomplishments and traveled, the most important activity to him was his Christian Ministry. Darrell was dedicated and baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in March 1991. He retired to Paris, Ark., in 2007. Darrell was deeply loved by his congregation in Paris where he served as an elder and was truly a shepherd caring for the spiritual and emotional needs of his fellow worshippers. His love and compassion for the truth in God’s Word and the congregations endeared him to all.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Lucinda; children, Sharlene, Barbara, William, Robert, Tommy, and Debby; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Dunten, and wife, Janice, of Drewsey; four nephews and one niece; two aunts; an uncle; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful mother, Marjorie Dunten, in 2015; his stepfather, Byron Dunten, in 1992; and two aunts.

His family and friends look forward to seeing him being resurrected soon when he hears Jesus’ voice wake him up to a beautiful paradise earth as God has promised in John 5:28. A memorial picnic will be held in Paris, Ark., for his many friends on Sept. 23, 2017.
