Albert Eugene “Gene” Jones 1932-2017

Albert Eugene “Gene” Jones, affectionately known as “PaGene”, 84, passed away Feb. 1, surrounded by his family.

Gene was born Oct. 21, 1932, in Drewsey to Denny and Mildred Jones. In 1939, the family moved to Juntura and then to Jonesboro. Gene grew up on the ranch, graduated from Burns High School, and returned to the ranch. He later met and married Tina Blankenship. They ranched and raised their five children.

In 1984, living in Ontario, Gene met and married the love of his life, Miriam Stephen.

From Jonesboro to Jones Ford Tractor, Gene went on to create and develop Firecon. Firecon’s “Terra Torch” is used throughout the country and is recognized today as the preferred ground fuel ignition system.

Gene’s love for fast “Fords” and his unique mechanical talent was a passion he held his entire life. He loved to hunt, camp, travel, listen to classic country music, and most of all, visiting with friends and family with a drink in hand.

Gene is survived by his wife of 32 years, Miriam; five children, Dan (Donna) of Ontario, Greg (Teresa) of Nyssa, Wes of Ontario, Rebecca of Boise, and Jennifer (Todd) of St. Paul; three stepsons, Thomas (Robyn) of Omaha, Patrick (Cindy) of Tacoma, and John (Shannon) of Albany; sister, Karen Dinsmore of Joseph; eight grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

To honor Gene’s life, an Elks Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Elks Lodge No.1690 in Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ontario Elks Lodge No. 1690.
