District 3 Little League Tournament coming to town

Harney County residents can expect to see a lot of new faces in town for the next week or so, as Harney County Little League hosts the District 3 Little League Tournament that gets under way Friday, June 24.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 people are expected to attend the weeklong tournament, with the action concluding on July 2.

The tournament will open with a game in the 8-10 age bracket between Milton-Freewater and the Harney County B team at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 24, on Field 1.

On Saturday, June 25, the 8-10 age bracket games are: Hermiston vs. Pendleton at 10:30 a.m.; Pilot Rock vs. La Grande at 1 p.m.; Wallowa Valley vs. Harney County A; and Baker vs. the winner of the game between Milton-Freewater and Harney County B at 6 p.m. All games will be played on Field 1.

First-round games on Saturday, June 25, for the 9-11 age bracket are: Baker vs. Grant County at 8 a.m. on Field 1; La Grande vs. Pendleton at 8:30 a.m. on Field 2; and Harney County vs. the winner of the Baker-Grant County game at 1 p.m. on Field 1.

First-round games on Saturday, June 25, for the 10-12 age bracket are: La Grande vs. Hermiston at 11 a.m.; Pendleton vs. Wallowa at 1:30 p.m. Columbia vs. Milton-Freewater at 4 p.m.; and Baker vs. Harney County at 6:30 p.m. All games will be played on Field 2.

The public is invited to attend the games and root for their favorite teams.

A portion of West Pierce Street, next to the fields, will be blocked off for the duration of the tournament for safety reasons.

The Burns Lions Club will be serving breakfast, starting at 6 a.m., Saturday and Sunday, June 25-26, at the Harney County Fairgrounds.
