Burns wins two of three in Spring Thaw tourney

Hilanders improve to 4-2 on the season

The Burns baseball team hosted their annual Spring Thaw tournament on Tuesday, March 22, through Thursday, March 24. The Hilanders won their first two games against Glide and Willamina, but lost to Vale to close the tournament.

Burns had six hits and scored nine runs in the second inning to jump out to an early lead against Glide. Zach McDonald and Ty Hueckman each had two hits for the Hilanders. Justin Lewellen pitched, and got the win for Burns as the Hilanders held off a late rally by the Wildcats.

Burns 11 Willamina 1

The Hilanders scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-1 victory in five innings against Willamina. Trace Tiller was 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs. Ty Wayne Reid was also 3-for-4, with two doubles and a triple. Hueckman went 2-for-3, scoring three runs, McDonald was 2-for-3, and Lewellen went 2-for-4. Kaleb Nyborg pitched four innings, and got the win for Burns.

Vale 15 Burns 7

In their third and final game of the tournament, the Hilanders lost to Vale 15-7. Statistics were not available at press time.
