The Burns softball team opened up the 2016 season on a winning note, downing Lakeview 5-3 on Thursday, March 17.

The Honkers came out swinging, and scored three runs in the top half of the first inning.

Burns answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, then took the lead with another two runs in the second inning.

The game then turned into a scoreless pitchers’ duel for two innings.

The Hilanders added an insurance run in the fifth, and came away with the win.

Ally Sutcliffe pitched a complete game for Burns and picked up the win.

The Hilanders’ Cassie Patterson had three hits and a pair of RBIs, Morgan Cooley was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Carli Feist had two hits, drove in one run, and scored once, and Sarah Blute had three hits and two runs scored.
