Go home militia!

A sizable group of community members gathered at the Harney County Courthouse Monday, Feb. 1, to show support for local and visiting law enforcement, as well as the FBI and local elected officials. The group also urged the Pacific Patriots Network and other outside groups to leave Harney County.

    1. there is only one side that is reality based and then there is the militia fantasy…maybe they should lay off the pot and booze

  1. Collapse of rural economy via federal wilderness areas provides
plenty of stress to communities. You work for the govt, or your generally poor if you used to have a private sector job. Add in
a corrupt federal judiciary in a sodomite relationship with the BLM,
a liberal federal judge Ann Aiken…. were there.

  2. Let me get this right; the militia comes in and harms no one while the FBI comes in and kills people and the residents of Harney County love the FBI and want the militia to leave? Is this Harney County Syria or Oregon, USA?

    1. The militia threatened the people who work and live there. And the taxpayers get stuck with the bills for all the damages. You can’t understand why locals tore down the 1st Finicom memorial, held a parade thanking the FBI for putting the Bundys in prison and shot Finicum’s 2nd monument full of bullet holes. Trot on out to Burns and tell them they aren’t Americans and you are. See what happens to you.

  3. Love reading the local input to events in burns and seeing the great photos. I’d like to see and hear more about it from the local angle with these outsiders making noise in your town.

  4. The occupiers areas criminal as John Dillinger, or any bank robbers: they show up with guns, take over U.S. property, which is owned by all of us, wreck some of it (employee dorms), say they won’t leave without a gunfight, and people sympathize with THEM ? They’re lucky all but one is still walking around.

  5. While the whole country is looking at your county and hope is awakening in all of us, a spokesman for the town that is the focus of our hearts is spouting one-sided politically-driven propaganda. Don’t you know what is at stake here? Once the people turn away from you in shame and disgust, nobody will ever look back. Stand up for truth and there are people (fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, brothers and sisters) who will stand unarmed in front of the assault with you in protest. Find your faith and find your courage.

  6. I hate to keep coming back to this, but I have to say, I DON’T get what is going on here: If I lived next to a city park, owned by and enjoyed by the residents of the city, and I decided I wanted to take over some of it for my own vegetable garden, and I did it armed, daring anyone to move me out, it would be unfair, illegal, thievery, even if I was inviting others to do the same thing. How is that freedom fighting?! I don’t get the sense of entitlement that says this is OK. I am absolutely disgusted with it.

    1. Don, the refuge is not owned by the people. It’s owned by the government. It’s land that previous ranchers and natives were forced off of. If you’re disgusted, leave America. Go to a communist country.

  7. Looks like militia members don’t like being kicked out of Oregon by the people who live there. Who would have guessed?

  8. Interesting… a photo with no story.

To get a real story, we would like to hear from residents of Harney County who are not employed or tied to the government. These are the opinions we trust most. Can Ms. White handle such a story?

It is also interesting to note there are about 16 women in the photo while only 6 men appear. Since the gender ratio is skewed from what one might expect, we have to ask what else might be skewed about this image. People with an agenda will have to excuse us for having scientific minds.

Could an actual resident of Harney County please identify which of these people are not affiliated with the government? That will help us gauge the message of the locals. Thanks.

    1. Sure, there is a beverage distributor, a retired advertisement salesperson and a couple nice members of our local Paiute tribe. I’m not employed by the government, however I was there. It is also interesting to note that since you’re concerned with the ratio of women to men in this photo, that you might be intimidated by the opposite sex. Since this is simply an impromptu photo of random locals gathering to stand up against others who fill it’s necessary to come to our town and lecture us on how to do things, exactly what were you expecting? What about the fact that most of the people who oppose the government, are actually living on government assistance, or that even Mr. Finicum himself received government funding for each child he fostered. What about the person who managed the government subsidized apartments who stood there and opposed the same government that employs her? Everyone has an agenda with everything that they do. Yours is to obviously hide behind a group of biologists while you try to question someone else’s ability to do their job. Mine is to tell you that if you aren’t from here and don’t encounter what we deal with as a community then your opinion doesn’t matter.

      1. “Samantha White was born and raised in Harney County, and she graduated from Burns High School. . . ”
Terrific journalism Ms. White. Thank you.
