Susan Marie Shepard Reynolds 1938-2015

OBIT Reynolds WEBSusan Marie (Sue) Shepard Reynolds passed away Dec. 22.

Sue was born Oct. 22, 1938, to Wallace and Alice Duhaime Shepard in Burns, where she attended school and graduated in the class of 1956. She married James E. McCavic in November 1956. They moved to San Diego, Calif., after Jim joined the Navy. They divorced in 1959.

Sue married Johnny H. Reynolds in August 1960.  They have two children, Joe Reynolds and Pam Reynolds Edwards. They lived in San Diego, Long Beach, Hawaii, and the Washington, D.C. area, and moved to Nampa, Idaho, when Johnny retired from the Navy in 1971.

Her joys in life were raising her children and being with family whenever possible. Sue was a volunteer for many organizations, and active in helping start Rainbow for Girls in Caldwell, Idaho, in 1976-1982. She taught classes for the American Red Cross and was a faithful blood donor. She worked for H&R Block in the downtown Nampa office for 19 years, and loved working with the people. She loved to crochet and work on genealogy, as time permitted. She developed a little-known movement disorder of the neck in 1999, and worked hard at finding information regarding it and helping others. She started a support group in the Treasure Valley for anyone with similar afflictions, and also served on the board of directors of the National Spasmodic Torticollis Association for nearly two years. She was also a breast cancer survivor in 2004.

Sue loved her grandchildren very much, although she didn’t get to spend much time with them.

Sue is survived by her son, Joe (Becky) Reynolds of Boise, Idaho; daughter, Pam (Kim) Edwards of Eagle River, Alaska; grandchildren, Christi (Chris) Kahklen of Palmer, Alaska, and Kayla (Kyel) Shippey of Boise; great-granddaughter, Olivia Belle Kahklen of Palmer, Alaska; mother, Alice Shepard of Burns; sister, JoEllen (Bill) McCurdy of Challis, Idaho; nephews, Mark (Jill) McCurdy, and Michael (Jana) McCurdy; niece, Patti (Gerry) Lacy; and their respective children; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and numerous other nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; father, Wallace Shepard; and husband, Johnny.

According to Sue’s wishes, she was cremated, and there will be no memorial services.
